CCTV, PROPERLY CONSIDERED

Your CCTV. Within reach.

Secure remote CCTV viewing for authorised users. Mobile app setup, playback, access permissions and connectivity checks for homes and businesses.

Remote CCTV viewing lets authorised people check live pictures and search recordings without standing next to the recorder. Sentinel5 configures supported access for homes, individual businesses and multiple sites, with permissions appropriate to each user.

A connection that works outside your WiFi

Viewing on the same network as the recorder does not prove remote access works. We test from an external connection and review the available internet upload speed. High-resolution streams use more bandwidth; a supported viewing substream can make mobile access more practical while the recorder keeps its main stream.

Accounts and permissions

We discuss who needs live view, playback, export and administration. Individual logins are preferable where the platform supports them, with strong passwords and multi-factor authentication where available. The business or homeowner should retain control of its accounts and the process for removing a user's access.

Secure network design

The access method depends on the equipment and your existing network. We can discuss supported manufacturer services or an appropriately managed VPN arrangement. We avoid treating broad internet exposure of the recorder as a default solution. Any changes to a managed network should be coordinated with the responsible IT provider.

What happens during an internet outage?

If the cameras, local network and recorder remain powered and connected, a correctly configured local recording system can keep recording. Offsite viewing needs connectivity. Cloud-dependent and battery systems behave differently, so their outage behaviour needs to be checked against the exact model.

Existing app or connection problems

If access stopped after a router, broadband or account change, make a note of what changed and whether local viewing still works. Do not send passwords in the enquiry form. Our maintenance service can investigate the equipment and restore a supported arrangement.
